What Type Of Pallet Rack Do You Need?

Warehousing is closely connected to almost all industries (from retail to machine tool building). Proper storage systems are utilized to ensure efficient workflow and high revenue. By far, industrial racking seems to be the best storage option that meets the above-mentioned criteria essential for every successful warehouse operation.

Pallet-Racking

When it comes to industrial racking, there are different storage systems depending on the operation. There is a list of factors that come into play when determining the right storage system, including:

  • Price
  • The size of the warehouse
  • Clear height of the warehouse ceiling
  • The type of goods stored in the facility
  • The product turnaround
  • The type of fork lift truck being used.

Over the last years, many types of storage systems were introduced on the market, but does all of them make a good option for every warehouse? Let’s take a look at the most popular types of industrial racking today.

Roll Formed

This is the most common form of storage system that can be frequently seen in warehouses. Roll formed racking features the so-called ‘teardrop style’, due to the teardrop-shaped holes on the column of the uprights. Normally, this type of racking has a rivet connection and it is cold rolled. It is less expensive than other types of industrial racking, because less steel is used. The mounting clips of roll formed racking are easily adjustable to different heights, which is ideal for warehouses that store a variety of product sizes.

Structural Formed

Differently from roll formed racking, structural racking is hot rolled. Hence, all the components are bolted together, which is the most visible difference between these two types of industrial racking. The uprights with bolts are connected to the horizontal load beams, thus increasing the rack weight-bearing capacity. In terms of price, structural formed racking is made out of thicker steel c-channels that make it a more expensive storage option.

Wire Decking

Wire decking is made of steel wire, and offers exceptional flexibility when it comes to storing different pallet sizes. With wire decking, there is a solid surface that maintains an open surface at the same time. This way, fire safety in the facility is additionally improved by enhancing the performance of the overhead sprinkler system. Furthermore, wire decking is exceptionally easy to install and it is maintenance-free, which makes it a very attractive industrial racking storage solution.
