From a few small plantings to a world-wide renowned industry known for quality and innovation, Australia’s wine industry has gone through some significant transitions in the last 200 years. Today Australian wine is among top rated in the world and Australia is one of the world’s top wine producing countries. From Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot Noir, Merlot and famous Shiraz, Australia is one of the few wine producing countries that produces every major wine style there is.
Today, there are 60 wine-producing regions all around Australia, but the ones in the cooler south east part are known for producing higher quality wines. However, virtually any climate in the country is suitable for a specific grape variety. The same applies for the various soil types. In other words, Australia is a country where any grape variety can be grown, thus any wine type can be produced, from white and red to rose and sparkling wines.
