Komatsu PC18MR-2 is able to fit into narrow areas and has a lot of power for light-duty excavation jobs. This Komatsu excavator is especially designed for small excavation jobs with small dimensions, weight and spacious operator’s station. Komatsu PC18MR-2 features a Komatsu 3D67E engine with 15 horsepower (11 kW) @ 2,600 rpm. This engine is used on many Komatsu excavator models, simply because it brings a lot of power and enables the excavator to carry out a variety of jobs. The engine provides two-speed, but they are automatically adjusting according the current load. The fuel tank has a capacity of 19 litres, which is enough for this excavator to run for a 2-3 days of hard work.

The PC18MR-2 can fit between a house and hedge, as it is able to narrow its blade and tracks. With the blade lifting one end and the boom lifting the other end of the machine, this compact Komatsu excavator can raise its track off the ground and hydraulically transform its width from 1300 mm to 980 mm, so it can fit the tightest places. However, before this process is performed, the operator must remove a pin from each side and fold the ends inwards.

In terms of electronics, Komatsu has stood by to the old-school throttle cable. Many operators love this, but younger operators are not comfortable operating an old-school excavator. The revs of this Komatsu excavator are at a decent level and enough downward force, so it is able to complete a variety of jobs. The reach of 3-m is enough for a compact excavator and sufficient for most of its suitable application.

As with any other Komatsu excavator, the comfort for the operator of PC18MR-2 has been one of the main focus points. Compact, yet spacious, the operators have a simple instrument panel in front of their comfortable seat, showing warning lights, hour clock and fuel gauge. The joystick controls are well-placed, with comfortable wrist rests that help for more accurate operation. The travel levers with flip-down pedal extensions allow the operators to easily use feet to move the machine, instead of arms.

Taking care of this Komatsu excavator is very easy, with an easy access to the key areas provided by the rear and side door. For thorough maintenance, the whole operator’s cabin can be tilted forward and allow access around the engine and hydraulics.
